2장

지혜가 주는 유익

 

1-5

Good friend, take to heart what i'm telling you ;

친구여, 내가 하는 말을 마음에 새겨라

 

collect my counsels and guard them with your life

내 훈계를 받아들여 목숨 걸고 지켜라.

 

Tune your ears to the world of Wisdom;

지혜의 세계에 귀를 쫑긋 세우고

 

set your heart on a life of Understanding.

분별 있게 살기로 결심하여라.

 

That's right - if you make insight your priority, and won't take no for an answer,

그렇다. 무엇보다 통찰력을 추구하고 그걸을 얻기까지 결코 만족하지 않는다면

 

Searching for it like a prospector panning for gold, like an adventurer on a treasure hunt,

금을 캐는 채굴업자와 보물찾기에 나선 탐험가처럼 그것을 찾는다면

 

believe me, before you know it Fear-of-GOD will be yours; you'll have com upon the Knowledge of GOD

어느새 하나님을 경외하고 하나님을 아는 지식을 얻게 될 것이다.

* take to heart : 마음속에 잘 간직하다.

* tune : 1. vt (악기) 조율하다 2. (기계) 조정[정비]하다 3. (라디오,텔리비전) ~맞추다 4. (상황) 준비[조정]하다

* priority : n. 우선 순위

* won't take no for an answer : 꼭 받아들여야 한다.

* prospector : 탐사자

And here's why: GOD gives out Wisdom free, is plainspoken in knowledge and under-standing.

하나님은 지혜를 값없이 주시고, 지식과 명철을 숨기시지 않는 분이시기에 그렇다

 

He's a rich mine of common sense for those who live well, a personal bodyguard to the candid and sincere.

그분은 제대로 사는 이들의 상식의 보고가 되시고 꾸밈없고 성실한 이들의 보호자가 되어 주신다.

 

He keeps his eye on all who live honestly, and pays special attention to his loyally committed ones.

정직하게 사는 모든 이들을 주시하시고 그분께 충성하고 헌신하는 자들을 특별히 보살피신다.

* plainspoken : 꾸밈없이 말하는, 솔직히 말하는, 노골적인(outspoken)

* candid : 솔직한 , (사진)자연스러운 모습 그대로 찍은

* commit : vi 전념[헌신]하다 vt (일,범죄)저지르다

 

 

9-15

So now you can pick out what's true and fair, find all the good trails!

그러면 너는 참되고 공평한 것을 가려내고 모든 좋은 길을 찾아낼 수 있을 것이다!

 

Lady Wisdom will be your close friend, and Brother knowledge your pleasant companion.

지혜가 네 절친한 벗이 되고 지식은 유쾌한 동행자가 될 것이다.

 

Good sense will scout ahead for danger, Insight will keep an eye out for you.

건전한 상식이 앞서 나가 위험을 찾아내고 통찰력은 너를 빈틈없이 지켜 줄 것이다.

 

They'll keep you from making wrong turns, or following the bad directions of those who are lost themselves and can't tell a trail from a tumbleweed, These losers who make a game of evil and throw parties to celebrate perversity, Traveling paths that go nowhere, wnadering in a maze of detours and dead ends.

네가 잘못된 길로 접어들지 않도록, 길을 잃어 어디가 어딘지 모르는 자들의 엉터리 길안내를 따르지 않게 지켜줄 것이다. 저들은 놀이하듯 악을 저지르고 못된 짓을 기념해 잔치를 연다. 그들이 다니는 길은 죄다 막다른골목, 여기저기둘러봐야 출구 없는 미로일 뿐이다.

*perversity : 괴팍함,심술궂음,외고집;사악

*throw a party 파티를 열다

*detour 1. 둘러 가는 길, 우회로 v. 둘러 가다, 우회하다

 

 

16-19

Wise friends will rescue you from the temptress - that smooth-talking Seductress

지혜로운 벗들이, 번드르르한 말로 유혹하는 여자에게서 너를 구해 줄 것이다

 

Who's faithless to the husband she married years ago, never gave a second thought to her promises before GOD.

그 여자는 여러 해 전에 결혼한 남편에 대한 신의를 저버리고 하나님 앞에서 맺은 혼인서약을 까마득히 잊은 자다.

 

Her whole way of life is doomed; every step she takes brings her closer to hell.

그런 생활의 결말은 뻔하다. 걸음을 뗄떼마다 지옥에 가까워질 뿐이다.

 

No one who joins her company ever comes back, ever sets foot on the path to real living.

그 여자와 어울리는 사람은 돌이키지 못하고 참된 삶으로 이어지는 길에 발을 들여 놓지 못한다.

*temptress : 유혹하는 여자(Seductress)

* a second thought : 다시 생각해봄, 재고, 깊이 생각하는 것

give a second thought : 깊이 생각하게 하다

*doom : n.죽음,파멸,비운 v.불행한 운명을 맞게 하다.

*company : 함께있음

 

 

20-22

So-join the company of good men and women, keep your feet on the tried-and-true paths.

그러니 선한 이들과 어울리고 신뢰할 만한 길을 걸어라.

 

It's the men who walk straight who will settle this land, the women with integrity who will last here.

올곧게 행하는 사람, 정직한 이들은 이 땅에 자리를 잡고 오래오래 살겠지만,

 

The corrupt will lose their lives; the dishonest will be gone for good

부도덕한 자들, 부정직한 자들은 목숨을 잃고 영원히 사라질 것이다.
